It was time to head to work, and so Felia quickly got dressed for the day as Joshua waited patiently for her. She still was having a hard time understanding how the two of them ended up in this strange situation, but as she slipped on her boots she realized that it didn’t matter anymore how it happened. What mattered now was how she was going to make sure things didn’t end up the same as her previous relationship. Stepping out of her bedroom, she grabbed a small pile of papers of a random table and stuffed them into a bag before swinging it over her shoulder. “Let’s go.” She called out to Joshua before leading the way outside.
It felt different walking with someone to work instead of by herself. The normal sights and buildings looked somehow brighter and more alive. She wasn’t sure how to explain it, nor did she dwell on it for too long as her hand found its way to Joshua’s. What was she doing? She felt like a teenager again as she held his hand firmly, unable to think of anything interesting to say. He had told her that he wanted to know things about her such as her likes, goals, and dreams…However, how could she tell him such silly little things when she didn’t have such things? Well that wasn’t completely true since she did have likes, but things like goals and dreams were unrealistic to her. What goals could she possibly have other than hoping to keeping her men from dying out in the field. As for dreams…Her mind couldn’t think of anything. When she was younger she dreamt of living in a large house surrounded by children that adored her, but children were out of the question these days.
So what she could possibly tell Joshua? Her hand slowly left his as they approached the headquarters. “I’ll be leaving the same time as always today if you…” Her voice trailed off as she saw a group of her men coming to ‘greet’ her. She gave a glance over at Joshua before stepping away from him. “Have a good day.” She remarked before leaving him for the heard of soldiers giving her reports as she headed for her office. There were some inconveniences to living off headquarters, but Felia preferred it over the constantly being surrounded by people situation that she was still unaccustomed to.
She stopped by her office briefly to throw her bag down before heading off to the training grounds to see how her new recruits were doing. They had all passed the series of tests needed to gain entry into her branch of the fighting forces, but that meant little to her as the majority of men tended to quit once they were out there fighting the Tarred creatures face to face. They were the front line men, and consider mostly expendable unless they proved themselves worthy of fighting. That’s how Felia viewed it when she joined, and how she continues to view it while looking over the new men joining.
