It is 2025 on the Isle of Feidlim…
On the tiny island of Feidlim the people for centuries lived peacefully. They had a booming fishery, and the parts of the island distant from the ocean were fertile and allowed for the plentiful growth of crops. There was little wrong with the island and whenever a problem did occur the locals were quite capable of handling themselves. It seemed to be that the islanders would have little to fear until one day they came.
Some theorized that they were dug up from the mines, brought back to life after centuries of sleeping. Others assumed that they had always been there, waiting, looking or the settlements. When or wherever they came from, it was the appearance of them which had almost annihilated the islanders. They were hulking beasts made of hot tar, leathery skin and platted bone. They did not speak nor displayed intelligence beyond a common carnivore, but their size and thick skin made it nigh impossible for swords, arrows, maces and spears to pierce the tough hide. No one knew what to do and day by day these great beasts were quickly wiping out the locals.
With hope quickly fading the Elders of Feidlim called out to distant lands asking for weapons or tools which could protect their people. Some sent weapons made of foreign metals, others tools to build walls to block out the creatures but none of it worked. The weapons, tough as they were could still not pierce the flesh of these deadly creatures and the walls could only hold out for so long before being worn down by repeated attacks. Nothing was working and the people were all but ready to leave their homes and flee to foreign lands. Then the island finally received a gift from a very far land, one that was different from a sword or brick. It was a book tied in old leather with arcane symbols and runic words etched into the cover.
It read, “Libri Veteris et Alchimisticam Carminibus Disputatio” and was a book consisting of old and new alchemic spells. Many at first did not think the book would serve much purpose, but after some reading a particular spell was found. It was called; “Alios Mittere Alica” translated to “The Spell to Send to Other Worlds”. In it the author noted that with an alchemic circle and a sufficient application of energy the spell would teleport any who stood in it to another world and the transported could only return with a similar spell. No one knew what these other worlds were or what it would entail for those who lived there but the people of Feidlim were desperate and they would try anything.
Before the next attack they placed dozens of alchemic circles around the towns, setting explosive traps upon each circle such that the force of the explosion would produce the energy needed to power the circlet. Then they waited. It had felt like an eternity but at last one creature came forth to attack. As it rushed at the town it hit one of the alchemic circles, setting of the explosion and successfully activating the spell. Within their eyes the watch the creature being violently pulled into itself until all that remained was a small, colourless pebbles. Some interested in what these colourless pebbles meant tried to study them, but the locals were pleased with the results and continued to use the spells.
In time newer and more innovative ways to cast the spell was implemented. First it was etching the circlet onto the bombs themselves so that locals could toss it at the creature. Then when that became inefficient and dangerous they developed long ranged weapons until final their greatest weapon came into existence…
