Name: Gwendolyn Gabrielle Thorne
Age: 27
Occupation: Apothecary
Family:
Husband- deceased
Children- none
Parents- father is deceased; mother is tbd; no living male relatives
Bio:
Gwen was born a witch. Her skills were seen and nurtured under her mother’s attentive eyes and hands. She spent a large amount of her childhood training and honing her abilities and she was barely past her first bleeding moon when her skills became well known in the witches community. For some one of her age, her skills have yet to been openly rivaled, though Gwen knows that there are likely others just as skilled, if not more so, than her. (The witch trials made communication among witches rare. and Identities are rarely revealed, to protect all parties... Though the attention her skills received, did not always remain unnoticed, especially by those who practiced darker magics ) Gwen worked hard growing up, dedicating herself to her studies, easily surpassing the years most women married without realizing it.
She did come across one man, that would later be her husband, at one point. And both of them would have gave the other barely a second thought if they had been left to their own devices. Fate though, had other plans, and she ended up crossing paths with her future husband. (He was sickly and her mother ran the apothecary in their region. though, the medicine and herbs gwen grew were more effective than what her mother was able to produce.) He caught onto fate’s hint quicker than she did, and she jokes she was the last to know what the universe was hinting. She was only awoken to it, when he formally asked to court her. She accepted after a year.
They “courted” for two years, before they wed. Mostly for the fact that he was determined to get himself in reasonable health before he would tie her to him with marriage and she did not trust him enough to tell him her secret. Finally, it all seemed to fall into place and he accepted her for what she was and their union was formally recognized. She set aside her work as an apothecary, and focused on being the perfect wife.Their marriage lasted two years.
But her happiness did not last, Her husband died shortly after their second year anniversary. It was a devastating blow. Her loss was emphasized and cushioned by the fact that she had been unable to conceive his child. Providing for herself was something she knew would be a challenge, but she grieved with the belief she had nothing to hold onto that was theirs. But her husband, because of his illness, had planned ahead for her and written out his will. He left everything he owned to her, with the rationale that she had no male to take care of her, and it was his responsibility to see she was provided for, even in his death. The courts could only agree, especially when presented with the fact that she could not have children, and it was not from the lack of trying. They allowed her to keep the land and home, so long as she could continue to keep paying the taxes.
Gwen returned to the craft and job she had been groomed for, with ease and comfort that she had forgotten about. She worked both for herself and her deceased husband, fulfilling her promise that she would help anyone and everyone she could. Her talent and skills and her determination to make sure that they were available to the common people made her medicines to be highly desired. Her business soared and before she knew it five years had passed.
Other: She will not talk about her husband’s death.
Personality: Gwen is a strong willed and caring person. She has a strong and natural intuition, and relies largely on her gut instinct. She is intelligent and knows that with the trials, keeping herself safe relied on the fact that she acted carefully, and does little to draw the ire of others... She is well respected in her village. Though, rarely anyone gets “close” to her. She is calm and reserved.
Likes:
Gardening - Often she could be found tending to her plants.
Children
Her time to herself
Dislikes:

Name: Scarlett Rose Rochester neé Crimsworth
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Age: TBD (21?)
Occupation: Writer
Personality:
Personal History: Scarlett is the daughter of John Edgar Crimsworth. Following her birth, John Crimsworth accepted an appointment as the king’s astrologer, alchemist, and personal physician. As a young girl, Scarlett was surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the kingdom. John allowed his only daughter to pursue intellectual interests, encouraging young Scarlett to study languages and discover the classics housed in the king’s royal archive, which held countless rare manuscripts. Scarlett married Richard Fairfax Rochester, royal secretary to the king, at fifteen. It was a smart match, as both were intelligent and attractive. The happy couple was married less than a month before Richard went on a mission with the king and died suddenly from illness. Following his death, Scarlett tried to collect money from her husband’s estate, but faced complicated lawsuits regarding salary due to Richard. Rather than marry, she turned to writing. Knowing full well, the eccentricities of those at court, she wrote love ballads that caught the attention of wealthy patrons. They were intrigued by the novelty of a female writer. In fact, many of them had Scarlett compose prose about their romantic exploits. Scarlett’s work was prolific, writing well over 200 ballads and poems in only a few years. It was also remarkable for a woman to have made a living as a writer.
Scarlett’s participation in a literary debate allowed her to move beyond court circles, establishing her one of the most important writers in the kingdom. Nevertheless, it was a literary controversy regarding Edward Thornton’s merits as a writer. His work denigrated women and used vulgar language. As a writer concerned with the position with women in society, Scarlett alleged he could never write for his female characters, for Edward had no knowledge of the female sex. Disgraced by a woman, he soon fled the kingdom and was never heard from again. The dispute helped to establish her reputation as a female intellectual who could assert herself in a male-dominated world.
Other: One day after mass an old man was stabbed by a ruffian. Scarlett rushed to his side and placed a hand over his wound trying to stop the bleeding. The man was miraculously healed and she immediately recognized her natural talent for healing. It was imperative to seek out someone with magical knowledge, which led her to a small village with an apothecary said to have magical abilities.

WALTER FITZWILLIAM WENTWORTH
An acquaintance of John Edgar Crimsworth. As part of the select few privileged to work for the king, Walter kept his magical abilities hidden. On one occasion, he saw little Scarlett perform healing magic on a wounded animal. Not wanting the young girl to be burned alive, he cast a binding spell on Scarlett’s magic. John Edgar Crimsworth was privy to this information and kept it from everyone, including his wife. Many years later, after his service to the king, Walter was imprisoned as a suspected witch. Torture did not loosen his tongue. Having learned of Mr. Wentworth’s predicament, John Crimsworth intervened. No one would question his authority. An unfortunate effect of the torture inflicted is that the binding spell on Scarlett was broken.
